Cross River State Government Hosts Grand Reception For National Youth Games Medalists In Asaba 2024

CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT HOSTS GRAND RECEPTION FOR NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES MEDALISTS IN ASABA 2024

In a significant gesture of support for sports and youth development, the Cross River State government organized a grand reception for its athletes who participated in the National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State in 2024. The event, which took place recently, was a testament to the commitment of the state government to promoting sports excellence among its young athletes.

The reception, attended by notable figures including Mr. Ekanem Ekpenyong, Special Assistant (SA) to the Governor on Sports, Mr. Groove, SA Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Samuel Egbala, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, and Mr. Moses Agbor, Director of Sports at the Cross River State Sports Commission, was a momentous occasion that brought together sports officials, coaches, and invited guests.

His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, was ably represented by Barr. Akiba Ekpenyong, SSA for General Duties. In his address, Governor Otu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises, particularly in supporting the state's sporting initiatives. This event marked the government's renewed focus on sports after a decade-long hiatus in honoring athletes for their accomplishments in major competitions.
The award ceremony recognized athletes in three categories: Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists. The recognition extended beyond just the medalists, as athletes who did not secure medals were also compensated for their efforts, along with their coaches and secretaries. This inclusive approach demonstrated the government’s appreciation for all athletes who participated in the National Youth Games.

The Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, also expressed gratitude to the Governor for supporting the event, highlighting that it was the first reception of its kind in over a decade. Hon. Atsu emphasized that the state government remains dedicated to supporting sports development and empowering athletes at all levels.
